Restoring Order by Battling Paper Clutter

I think many of you can relate to me when I say that during October, life got away from me. I was so extremely busy that I didn’t complete very many projects around the house. Well, I’m back in the grind now. Things are getting back to normal and all those things I neglected are now back in my sights. Clutter and unorganized spaces beware!

I started my re-entry into my Decluttering world by collecting all my receipts from various projects and day to day activities. In doing some research on the best method/process for storing receipts until I am ready to deal with them, I ran across a post by Simply Organized who created a receipt box.  I also ran across another blogger who used a small expandable file to collect all her receipts (can’t remember her name but will add later if I do).  Both of these ladies separated their receipts by store or purpose… How perfect is that? I often need to find a specific receipt and in my previous system I’d have to hunt through them all to find the one I needed which was inevitably at the back.

I lucked up because I had an old expandable in the house that wasn’t being used. The velcro was a little skewed but since it is probably 10 – 15 years old I won’t complain lol. Talk about recycling an item!

I sorted the receipts I had readily available to determine what categories I needed. I then created categories for the items represented and also for some of the most common stores I frequent and a few projects I have. I ended up filling every slot.

My life of receipts is so organized now! The good thing is I can add the store items to my price book easily as time permits and I have them all readily available. Woo hoo order is restored….well for one thing that is…. But hey we conquer clutter one thing at a time.

On to the next clutter corner…my to do box.
